Blog 8: Summer Plans

So my summer plans are not quite defined yet, but with my dad and siblings are planing to go somewhere out of Chile. Last summer we didn't do anything as a family because we were remodeling our house, and there was no money left to go somewhere :(. So... what we are looking forward to do this upcoming summer is go to Orlando and repeat a travel we did in 2014. Going to amusement parks is something that we love to do as a family. We don't like Disney's parks though, when we went to Orlando in 2014 my dad didn't buy tickets to those, because he had already visited them and told us they where for little kids, and what we like about amusement parks is the thrill of the rollercoasters and that kind of attractions.

The plan is to go with my dad and my two siblings, and also my cousin. Go to Universal Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure, then go to Busch Gardens, which is in Tampa, a couple hours away from Orlando, and then I guess some other parks.

If our first plan for some reason doesn't work out, I'd like to go to Japan. Because I'd love to visit every continent before I die, and I think that it would be very interesting to get to know their culture. Go to Hiroshima and all those historic places.

Anyways, I really want to go to Orlando again with my family this summer so... fingers crossed.

Blog 7: Favorite Food

Since I was a little kid, burgers have been my favorite food. When I was younger, my parents worked a lot and every time they came home late (every single weekend because they worked in liquor stores), they had a bag of burgers in their hands. So you could say that my whole life I've eaten at least one burger per week.

Now times have changed. Although my mom still works in a liquor store (she has her own now!), there is no need for her to come home with burgers, because we order delivery hehe. I guess you could say Rappi has changed my life in that way. Every time there's nothing else to eat in my house, I order a burger, it's so easy!

I think Burger King is my favorite place to eat burgers. They make them fast, it's not as expensive as other places and their burgers are delicious. I really love the Whooper Extreme. I really like Johnny Rockets and Carl's Jr too, but as those are more expensive, I only go there with my mom or dad.

I like cooking burgers at home too, but only when someone else is in charge of the cooking, because I'm really lazy and not a really good cook, so I will always prefer to buy them at some place that I like, instead of cooking my own.

Blog 6: Postgraduate Studies

When I think of my future, i'ts all blurry. Since I don't know what I'm going to do when I finish studying journalism, a postgraduate degree is much harder t think of. But, as you already know, there are two options: something related to films or some strategic communication degree.

I'd like to study abroad. If it's films related, I think that Argentina would be a nice option or maybe Europe. On the other hand, if I take a strategic communication degree, I'd like to go to the United States. I wouldn't mind to study here in Chile, it would be much easier but way less fun though.

I think that a part time course would be nice because, In my opinion, postgraduate studies are much more valuable if you have already gained experience in your field. Now, maybe if I go abroad, get a work would be much more harder, so I think that my plan will be 1. Work a couple years here, after I graduate. And 2. Renounce to my job and leave Chile to study and then come back.

Anyways, I think that a postgraduate degree is something that I'm absolutely going to do, because as a journalist, the laboral market is too competitive, so a master or any other postgraduate study is a must if I want to have a decent salary.

Blog 5: My Future Job

I don't know what kind of job I'd like to have :(. I just hope it's not boring. I'm studying journalism but I actually don't want to be a journalist. This year (the third) I met the strategic communication class and I really liked it, but I don't really know if that's what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Wether my job is outdoors or indoors I don't care that much. I love being outdoors but I don't have any problem being indoors because sitting in front of a computer is what I do on a daily basis (hehehe).

I really like to travel, so I hope my future job keeps me going from one place to another, even if it's from office to office, because that way I don't get bored. In terms of salary, I'd be grateful if it's generous, so I can be independent and don't have to bother my parents anymore.

To be honest, I'd love to have a job that is movies related, whether if it's from strategic communication or journalism. Being paid for going to the cinema and see movies is one of the best things that could ever happen to me. Imagine it, travel to Cannes and other film festivals and write about it, or work directly in the festivals. Anyways, as long as it makes me happy I won't complain.

Blog 4: Music

To choose a favorite music artist is a really hard thing for me to do because I tend to listen to songs from different artists. I think that the only one that I've been listening to since like forever is Mac Miller. He reminds me of the good old 2012 summer nights when I used to play Call of Duty until 5 am with my friends.

The album that I like the most is Best Day Ever (2011), the one I think made him big. It has really good songs like  Donald Trump, Wear My Hat, I'll Be There (he wrote this one for her mother), Keep Floatin' (a collab with Wiz Khalifa) and my all-time favorite song: BDE Bonus, which according to Genius is "just Best Day Ever but with a different and dope beat. All of these songs are in Spotify but I recommend you to go to Youtube to listen to the last one.

I think it goes without saying that my favorite music genre is Rap/Hip-Hop. Besides Mac Miller, lately I've been listening to J Cole, Loyle Carner, and 21 Savage. I really hope they come to Chile one of these days.

Blog 3: Once upon a time in Hollywood... review

When it comes to movies, Tarantino is one of my favorite directors, so the hype was real when he announced this one. Although there are people saying that it is terrible, I think that it actually is a really nice movie. Instead of making a bad person like Charles Manson look really nice and cool (like they are doing with Ted Bundy) Tarantino says "no way", and makes him look like the sh*tty person he was.

My favorite character is Rick Dalton, because I love to see a guy who thinks is the best being lame and realizing he's not what he thinks he is. And of course because of Leito's performance (perfect as always).

One thing that I liked about the movie was that when Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie), went to the cinema, Tarantino used the real footage of her movies, instead of recreating them with Margot Robbie. The thing that I didn't like was Lorenza Izzo's (Rick Dalton's wife character) performance, specially in a scene when she overacts too much.

My favorite scene is the last one, when the Manson family members break into Rick Dalton's house.

Blog 2: My best vacation ever!

My best vacation ever took place in southern Africa in the summer of 2018. I went with my cousins Juan de Dios and Nicolás and visited a lot of cities, historic places and saw a lot of wild animals too!

We first arrived to Johannesburg and immediately rented a car, and then for about one entire month we went from one city to another, it was so much fun! We went to the Apartheid Museum, to the Kruger National Park and saw all the big five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo), which is a very hard thing to do; visited Nelson Mandela’s house in Soweto and Robben Island, where he was imprisoned for 18 years. We also did shark cage diving, which is one of the most thrilling things I’ve ever done in my life, the shark got to be too close to the cage! The last thing we did before coming back was going to Ultra Music Festival in Cape town, literally hours before taking the plane back to Chile! I had a really good time despite I didn’t like that kind of music then.

We also went to Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland, which are South Africa’s neighboring countries. I will always remember this vacation as the most crazy I’ve ever had.
